Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Urumqi

Upon arrival in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, you’ll be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, take some time to relax and recover from your journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the option for a leisurely evening walk around the city. Urumqi is a vibrant blend of modernity and tradition, offering a glimpse into the diverse cultures of Central Asia. Stroll through local parks, sample Uyghur street food, or simply unwind and prepare for the adventures ahead.

Day 2: Urumqi - Tianchi Lake - Beitun 

After breakfast, embark on a scenic day trip to Tianchi Lake (Heavenly Lake), nestled in the Tianshan Mountains. This alpine lake is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, surrounded by lush forests and snow-capped peaks. Take a leisurely walk along the lakeshore or opt for a boat ride to fully appreciate the serene beauty of the area. 

In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic drive along the S21 Desert Highway, which cuts through the vast Gurbantünggüt Desert, one of the largest deserts in China. Marvel at the endless golden dunes and the stark beauty of the desert landscape. Continue your journey to Beitun, a tranquil town near the border with Kazakhstan, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 3: Beitun - Jiadenyu 

After breakfast, journey to Jiadenyu, a gateway to the stunning Kanas region. En route, stop at the Five-Color Beach, a geological wonder where mineral deposits have created a vibrant, multicolored landscape. The unique hues of red, yellow, green, and purple make this a photographer’s paradise. 

Upon arrival in Jiadenyu, take some time to relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this remote area. The surrounding forests and mountains provide a perfect backdrop for a quiet evening.

Day 4: Jiadenyu - Kanas - Jiadenyu

Day 5: Jiadenyu - Hemu Village - Burqin

This morning, travel to Hemu Village, one of the most picturesque villages in Xinjiang. Nestled in a valley surrounded by forests and mountains, Hemu is home to the Tuvan people, an ethnic group known for their traditional wooden houses and unique way of life. Stroll along the Hemu River, visit the Tuvan Village, and learn about their customs and traditions. 

In the afternoon, continue to Burqin, a charming town known for its peaceful atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings. Spend the evening exploring the town or simply relaxing amidst the serene landscape.

Day 6: Burqin - Dushanzi/Kuitun

Day 7: Dushanzi/Kuitun - Turpan

Day 8: Turpan

Next, visit Flame Mountain, famous for its extreme heat and fiery red rocks, which are said to resemble flames. Continue to the Karez Wells, an ancient irrigation system that has sustained life in the desert for over 2,000 years. This engineering marvel is a testament to the ingenuity of the region’s early inhabitants. 

Conclude your day with a visit to the Jiaohe Ancient City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This well-preserved ruin was once a thriving city along the Silk Road and offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. In the evening, enjoy a visit to a Uyghur family, where you’ll be treated to traditional hospitality, cuisine, and music.

The bazaar is also a great place to sample local delicacies and interact with friendly vendors. 

Spend your final evening in Urumqi reflecting on your journey through Xinjiang’s diverse landscapes and cultures.

Day 10: Departure from Urumqi
